ROD AND REEL RULES AND REGULATIONS
CORONADO YACHT CLUB
The Rod and Reel Club was established to encourage sport fishing among the members of the Coronado Yacht Club. The Membership of the Club will consist of all members of the Coronado Yacht Club who, by their participation, show that they take an active interest in sport fishing. The governing body is the Tackle and Weighing Committee. These are members appointed by the Rod and Reel Chairman, and govern all matters including tackle, fishing, weighing of fish and the awarding of trophies.
The distinctive pennant of the Rod & Reel Club shall be a pennant, blue in color, and pointed at the end of the fly. It shall also contain a fish insignia, white in color, adjacent to the hoist tabling.
The rod, reel and all other tackle must be in reasonable proportion or "balance" to the line sizes. Rods must be of wood, cane, tubular metal, or glass, and must be in conformity with sporting ethics and customs. Rods giving the angler an unsportsman like advantage will be disqualified. Lines may be of linen, synthetic materials or metal for bottom fishing. Double handed reels are not allowed. The decision of the Tackle and Weighing Committee will be final.
Conservation measures such as tag and release, and catch and release, will also be allowed to be counted as a caught fish. Proof of such catch will have to be verified by another FLAG member, or certification by a reputable authority as recognized by the Tackle and Weighing Committee. Pictures or film of such a catch will be accepted as evidence.
The fishing season is from October 1 through September 30, thus enabling trophies to be awarded at the regular Club Trophy Dinner each year.
The weigh-in scale is located near the front porch and is kept locked. See a Rod and Reel member for access to the scale to weigh your catch. All catches must be recorded in the weigh-in book located in Rod and Reel mailbox in the back television room. A season record board is located in the hallway that houses the bulletin boards.
Competition waters are bordered by Point Conception to the north and Santo Tomas Point to the south. Because of the size of the competition area, anglers may be out longer than one day, and have other stops on their trip. Members weighing in fish on multi-day trips should make every effort to weigh the fish in at an affiliated yacht club or recognized sport fishing landing that has sufficient facilities to weigh the catch. This includes fish weighed at local scales that were used because the scales at the Club were not sufficient because of the size of the catch. Any such weigh-ins from other clubs or landings must be registered with the CYC Rod and Reel Club within 72 hours after returning to port and must be accompanied by written documentation from other clubs or fishing landings, showing all necessary proof and aspects of said weigh-ins.
All fish landed on any commercial type fishing boat are disqualified. Members catching fish on a charter within the specified area and adhering to the rules set forth by the Rod and Reel Committee will be allowed to have their catch counted as long as all the weigh-in stipulations are met.
Awards are made for largest fish caught in each division: Men's, Women's and Children's.
The Rod and Reel Chairman and the Tackle and Weighing Committee will determine the awarding of trophies, categories to be awarded and any other matters or grievances pertaining to Rod and Reel.
Rod & Reel meetings are open to everyone.
The meetings are held at Coronado Yacht Club
on the first Tuesday of each month @ 7:00 p.m.
