Membership

Thank you for your interest in membership.

Membership is limited to 650. As a prospective member, a current Flag member must sponsor you. Please ask your sponsor to stop by the Club to pick-up an application packet for you. In order to complete this application you will need two sponsors who have known you for a minimum of two years, and three references, all Flag members of CYC.

Initiation fees, and prepaid dues will become due upon notification of the applicants acceptance as a member. The initiation fee for Flag and Junior Flag members may be paid in four quarterly installments or 36 monthly installments, with the first installment due upon acceptance.

Classes of Membership

  • Flag Membership
    • Flag membership is the basic, fully participating class of membership. Flag members have property rights in the Club, the right to vote, to hold elective office, the use of all Club facilities. Your membership includes your spouse.

      Initiation Fee at Age:

      21-34: $2,000
      35-39: $3,500
      40-44: $5,000
      45-49: $6,500
      50-54: $8,000
      55-59: $9,000
      60+: $10,500

      Prepaid Dues: $150.00

      Monthly Dues: $165.00

      Slip Fees: $5.50/linear foot + metered electricity (wet) $5.50/linear foot (dry) 

      We offer payment plans of quarterly and monthly payments. Monthly payments have an additional $10.00 administrative fee.Members flagging up to Flag membership from Junior Flag/Junior memberships receive credits of 10% off of their initiation fee for every year they were an active Junior Flag and/or Junior member, resulting in a $0.00 balance after 10 years of Junior Flag and/or Junior membership.

  • Junior Flag Membership
    • Junior Flag membership is for persons age 24 through 34. They shall have the rights and privileges of Flag members with the exceptions of property rights in the Club, voting and cannot precede a Flag member on any waiting list for slips or other Club facilities. The initiation fee is $300.00.

      Initiation Fee: $300.00
      Prepaid Dues: $150.00
      Monthly Dues: $82.50 (50% of FLAG dues for the first five years. 100% thereafter.)

  • Junior Membership
    • Junior membership is for persons age 7 through 24. Junior members have the rights and privileges of Flag members with the exception of property rights in the Club, voting and holding elective office and the privilege of being on any waiting list for slips or other permanently assigned usage of Club facilities. There is no initiation fee.

      Initiation Fee: Does not apply.
      Prepaid Dues: $33.00 (Children whose parents are not members)
      Monthly Dues: $33.00 (20% of Flag dues. Sons and daughters of Flag and Junior Flag members and children whose legal guardians are FLAG and JUNIOR FLAG members pay no dues until reaching the age of 16 years.

  • Social Membership
    • *We are currently not accepting new Social membership applications. If you are interested in getting on our Membership Interest List for Flag Membership, please have a CYC Flag Member contact the Front Office as your sponsor.* 

      Social memberships are eligible to participate in all social activities of the club including the usage of food and beverage facilities and attendance at special events and cruises. A Social member can have reciprocal privileges with other yacht clubs. A Social member cannot be on a slip list, be assigned any berthing rights, participate in any Joint Ownership/Joint Charter arrangement, be assigned any rights to store any form of watercraft or other property, vote at the Semi-Annual and Annual Membership meetings, or hold any elective or appointed position.

      Initiation Fee: Does not apply.
      Prepaid Dues: $215.00 (One month’s dues)
      Monthly Dues: $215.00 ($50.00 above FLAG dues)

      Social memberships will be for a period not greater than 24 months. Currently, the maximum number of Social Memberships available for the fiscal year is 10 (ten) slots. If the maximum number of Social memberships is reached during any Fiscal Year, the Membership committee shall establish a Social member wait list, based upon the date of approval by the Board of Directors. Candidates will be offered the opportunity to apply for Social membership as openings occur.

  • Temporary Membership
    • Temporary membership may be granted by vote of the Board of Directors to non-residents of San Diego County. Temporary membership is limited to three consecutive month’s maximum in any twelve-month period.

      Initiation Fee: Does not apply.
      Prepaid Dues: Does not apply.
      Monthly Dues: $268.95 (163% of FLAG dues)


Application Process

  • Flag, Junior Flag, Deferred
    • *We are currently not accepting new membership applications. If you are interested in getting on our Membership Interest List for Flag or Junior Flag Membership, please have a CYC Flag Member contact the Front Office as your sponsor.* 

      Our Flag Membership is limited to 650. As a prospective member, a current Flag member must sponsor you. Please ask your sponsor to stop by the Club to pick up an application packet for you.

      1. The sponsor will pick up the application and five questionnaire forms, for the two sponsors who have known and three references that have known you for a minimum of two years. A background check is conducted on each applicant and spouse/California Registered Domestic Partner.
      2. When the correctly completed application is returned to the office, it is given a priority number. The applicants name and the sponsor’s names are then posted on the bulletin board. This information will also be published in the next issue of the Whisker Pole. The posting period shall run for at least 30 days following the mailing date of that issue of the Whisker Pole, during which time any member of the Club in good standing may examine the application and present written comments concerning the admission of the applicant to the Secretary.
      3. After the application has been posted for 30 days, the packet will then be ready for Membership Committee review. The Membership Committee schedules interviews with the applicant and sponsors.
      4. Upon approval from the Membership Committee, the application packet is brought to the Board of Directors Meeting for action.
      5. The applicant, if approved by the Board, is added to the Approved List Waiting For A Vacancy, in the order in which the application packet was completed. The approved applicant stays on this list until there is an opening in the membership rolls.
      6. When there is a vacancy in the membership rolls, the application is submitted to the Board of Directors and the applicant is advanced to Flag or Junior Flag membership.
  • Social
    • Any one age 25 or greater may apply to become a Social member. Social memberships will be for a period not greater than 24 months.

      1. A CYC member must sponsor the candidate. The sponsoring member need not have known the applicant for a minimum of two years as is required for Flag, Junior Flag, and Junior candidates. During the interview process the candidate for Social membership must demonstrate an interest in both yachting and participating in activities in CYC.
      2. There shall be no initiation fee for a Social membership. Monthly dues shall be $50.00 more than the current Flag dues. The $50.00 monthly surcharge will be deposited in the Capital Improvement Fund.
      3. At the end of the period of Social membership, a Social member shall either apply for Junior Flag (if he or she qualifies age-wise) or Flag membership. Should a Social member choose to apply for, and is accepted for, a Junior Flag or Flag membership, the member shall receive a credit towards the then current initiation fee for the selected class of membership equal to the number of months the member paid the $50.00 surcharge multiplied by $50.00.
      4. If a Social member does not apply for Flag or Junior Flag membership at the end of the term of the Social membership, or a Social membership is terminated at any time, the Social member shall be dropped from membership and all surcharges paid by the member will be retained in the Capital Improvement Fund.

  • Junior Applicants: Parents Or Guardians Who Are Not Members
      1. Stop by the office to pick up an application packet, which includes six questionnaires.
      2. The applicant will need two Flag member sponsors and four references (friends, teachers, coaches, etc.) to complete the questionnaires.
      3. When the completed application packet is returned to the office, the applicant’s name and the sponsor’s names are then posted on the bulletin board. Also this information will be published in the next issue of the Whisker Pole. The posting period shall run for at least 30 days following the mailing date of that issue of the Whisker Pole, during which time any member of the Club in good standing, may examine the application and present written comments concerning the admission of the applicant to the Secretary.
      4. After the application has been posted for 30 days, the applicant is interviewed by the Junior Director and Junior Advisor. The application is then forwarded to the Membership Committee.
      5. Upon approval of the Membership Committee the application for membership will be addressed at the next Board of Directors Meeting. Upon approval of the Board of Directors the applicant will be accepted into the membership rolls.

  • Junior Applicants: Parents Or Guardians Are Flag/Junior Members
      1. Upon reaching the age of seven, a member’s child who is interested in membership is requested to fill-out a one-page application. The parents are listed as the sponsors.
      2. The application is forwarded to the Board of Directors to be addressed at the next Board meeting. Correspondence will be forwarded advising the applicant that they have been approved for membership.
